CALLED TO ORDER
The June 29th, 2007 meeting of the WLIA was called to order at 8:10 p.m. by President Osterhout.
Secretaries report - February 2007 minutes were read by Stacy Loucks. Bernie Nagengast made a motion to receive the minutes as read, Terri Johnson seconded the motion. All members present were in favor.
Treasurers report - Read by Willard Osterhout. The balance in the checking account is $269.33. The balance in the dam account is $18,505.30. The balance in the savings account is $10,080.09. Total of all accounts is $28,854.73. Life at the Lake books- 362 sold, Life Along The Way books- 549 sold with a profit of $4,784.00. 400 copies of the new book are being printed, the cost of the new book will be $25.90. Willard has a listing of paid and unpaid dues, stop and see him after the meeting to see if you are paid. Amy Anderson motioned to receive the treasurers report, Barbara Welden seconded. All were in favor.
Correspondence- Willard received a thank you letter from BKW for the scholarships. They were received by Jennifer Miller and William Mcpeeden. He also received a letter from Families Together in Albany County asking for a $100 donation for the Family Fun Day at the Berne Town Park on July 7th.
Amy Anderson- Families Together is a non-profit organization that helps children with social and emotional special needs. We are looking for donations from buisinesses in the area to help us with financing Family Day which is free to the families. We have spent over $600 so far. We are providing games, a bouncy bounce, and pony rides for the kids. Beth Hanley motioned to make the donation, Roy seconded. All were in favor.
Doug Marshall- Since our Family Day has declined over the years, maybe we should consider becoming more involved with community events.
Roy- Maybe a budget should be set up for donations to other community organizations.
Willard- Brother John will be having his fireworks tomorrow night.
Family Fun Day- On July 7th starting at 2:00pm in The Berne Town Park. From 3-6 will be a Model T car show, 5 until dark there will be music, and Fireworks at dark. Friends of the Library will be selling food to raise money for the new Library.
A discussion was held about needing a WLIA sign. Beth Hanley donated a sign from Hanley Sign Co.
Willard off topic- A free copy of the books are given to local Libraries and places like the Old Stone Fort.
Volunteers are needed to man the WLIA table to sell the book- Sue Rockmore and Amy Carlson volunteered for 2-3, Bob Dollar and Dan Johnson volunteered for 3-4, Bart volunteered for 4-5, and Jerri volunteered for 5-6.
Willard- Who's red paddle boat is sinking. Doc said he thinks that it was Bruces.
Willard- There was a walkway to a float that was stuck in the spillway. Bob Rivers cut it up and put it up on Freestones lawn. The Town will be picking it up. We need to make sure that we cleanup our own stuff.
Family Day Commitee- Willard suggested Dinner at 4:30, the ponies come at 5:30, games from 2-4:30. Just do Hot Dogs and Hamburgers and everyone bring a dish. Others suggested cooking from 4-6. Lee can provide money for supplies. Flyers can be made up and posted throughout the town and handed out around the lake. Amy Carlson will hand out on Strevell Lane, Hanleys will hand out on Ridge Lane, Barbara Welden will hand out on Dyer, Freestones will hand out on Ohanlon, and Mary Ohanlon will hand out on Coco and Mill Dam.
Weeds- Willard has been checking around. Helderberg stopped spraying because it wasn't working. He hasn't been able to reach anyone at Onderdonk.
Rose Freestone saw a new weed. Willard thought it sounded like a chinese water chestnut.
Marty- Albany County Cooperative Extention will test the weed and give information on it.
Historical Committee- Willard has purchased a few postcards.
Raffle Committee- $500 plus profit so far.
Postcards and note cards are available to purchase and are also on the website.
Bart- Someone has a very powerful boat that is creating huge wakes. Bart did point them out to the owner who seemed concerned. Willard warned them when they launched the boat.
Roger Freestone- There is a collection of logs in the corner by the dam. We would need a work party to remove them. Willard will let Bob Rivers know.
Bob Dollar- Is there any concern about the Beaver. Noone thought there was. Willard said he could call Encon about the beaver.
Gerri- the lake was tested twice this year in front of Pleats. The results were that the lake is extremely clean. There will be another test in July, Roger Freestone suggested that we ask if they can take samples from more than one area.
Amy Anderson asked if the County has been asked to test the leach systems. Willard stated that the Town does not have the manpower or money to do that.
A moment of silence was held for Michael Comfort, Rosemary Nicholas, Ray Elliot, and Helen Craft.
