Members of the SORA were present to speak about the upcoming races in September.
A 7-8 minute promotional video tape was shown for the Boat races. Races will be the last weekend of September. Bruce Boyle, President of SORA, a member of American Powerboat Assocation, spoke about the organization. Comments made: still looking for more parking, boats and some campers will be at Pleats, there is no sponsorship for the racers, they just want to race and help our community raise money.
Dan Johnson asked about cleanup, who will notify homeowners of the time frame and how do we stop other boats from going on the lake during the race. SORA does all of the cleanup, flyers will be put up to notify residents to the time frame, they do police the lake to keep people away from the race zone.
There will be 50-60 entries on the lake.
Dave Whitbeck asked why they came to Warners Lake as small as it is. A great deal of them live in the Capital District and would like there families to see them race.
Traffice Control - Willard said that we have asked East Berne Fire Police to help with Pleats. There will be no parking on the streets. The Ambulance Squad will be on the scene.
Sponsoring Organizations are Pleats and the WLIA. Bob Dollar was concerned about liability being a sponsor. SORA stated that we could be added as additionally insured on their policy. Willard mentioned that there is no obligation for us to be a sponsor.
The race will be able to be seen from any house on the lake. Non-Lake Residents will have to view the race from Pleats.
Donations will be made to the WLIA and Helderberg Ambulance by SORA.
Gail Dollar asked about fueling the boats. SORA responded that the boats will be fueled on shore mostly. The boats only hold two quarts of gas. They do have a spill cleanup crew if needed.
The boats will be a minimum of 50 feet from shore.
Racers have to stay within the inner course which will be approximately 150 feet from shore.
Dan Johnson made a motion to allow the race, Dave Paton seconded. Gail asked that it be contingent on being additionally insured. Roger Lamberton opposed. Motion was passed.
